How the virus transmits:
Transmission of coronavirus occurs much more commonly through respiratory
droplets than through objects and surfaces, like doorknobs, countertops, keyboards, toys,
etc. Current evidence suggests that SARS-CoV-2 may remain viable for hours to days on
surfaces made from a variety of materials. Cleaning of surfaces in particular visibly dirty
surfaces followed by disinfection is a best practice measure for prevention of COVID-19 in
community settings. Hand washing using warm soapy water followed by antiviral hand
sanitiser / gel is widely acknowledge as being the most appropriate method of maintaining
General Cleaning Protocol:
Use disposable cloths or paper roll and disposable mop heads, to clean all hard
surfaces, floors, chairs and door handles, following one of the options below:
• Use either a combined detergent disinfectant solution at a dilution of 1,000 parts per
million available chlorine
• A household detergent followed by disinfection (1000 ppm av.cl.). Follow
manufacturer’s instructions for dilution, application and contact times for all
detergents and disinfectants
• If an alternative disinfectant is used within the organisation, this should be checked
and ensure that it is effective against enveloped viruses
• Avoid creating splashes and spray when cleaning.

• Any cloths and mop heads used must be disposed of and should be put into waste
alcohol based hand gel with minimum 70% alcohol content, surface spray to include;
wetsuits and PFD antiviral solution.
As already highlighted Hand hygiene is essential to reduce the transmission of
infection, below identifies standard hand hygiene practice:
• All staff, and visitors should decontaminate their hands with alcohol-based hand rub
(ABHR) when entering and leaving EBB & FLO Living
• Staff members should cover all cuts or abrasions with a waterproof dressing
• Minimum of 20 seconds to clean hands
Respiratory and cough hygiene – ‘Catch it, bin it, kill it’
Staff and visitors should be encouraged to minimise potential COVID-19
transmission through good respiratory hygiene measures which are:
• Use of disposable, single-use tissues should be used to cover the nose and mouth
when sneezing, coughing or wiping and blowing the nose
• Used tissues should be disposed of promptly in the nearest waste bin
• Waste bins (lined and ideally foot operated) and hand hygiene facilities, will be
available for, customers and staff
• Hands should be cleaned (using soap and water if possible, otherwise using (ABHR)
after coughing, sneezing, using tissues or after any contact with contaminated
• Encourage staff to keep hands away from the eyes, mouth and nose
Wearable Equipment Disinfecting Process
Both wetsuits and PFD’s will undergo a full disinfecting process after each
use. Both will be submerged in a combined detergent and disinfection solution of cleaner
and 10% CHEMGEM plus, an antibacterial, antiviral product e.g. beyond biocidal wetsuit
rinse. The ideal process would leave wearable reusable kit fallow for a 72hr period in direct
sunlight having undergone a disinfecting process. The gold standard when using reusable
wearable equipment would be to alternate usage after a 72hr period where evidence
suggests the Corona virus will have diminished significantly. When stored, wetsuits and
buoyancy aids will be separated into specific areas based upon how long the item has
remained fallow, for example day one, day two, day three and unused. However, expected
high use wearable equipment may have to be used more than once in a 24hr period and a
rigorous disinfecting process will be conducted.
Wetsuits & Buoyancy Aid:
The disinfecting process will be as follows:
• Used wetsuits and PFD’s upon return will be fully immersed in antiviral
disinfectant and detergent fluid and follow manufacturers guidelines, high touch
areas such as zippers, zips and buckles will also be sprayed with antiviral disinfectant
and initially left in direct sunlight; while in storage overnight segregated from unused
wetsuits and PFD’s (as detailed above).
