When I chose the name Ebb and Flo and designed its logo, I wanted them to feel like an extension of me, a reflection of my connection to nature, life’s rhythms, and the balance we all try to find.
The name Ebb and Flo is inspired by the tides. Living by the sea, I’ve always been in awe of how the water moves, its gentle ebb and flow, the way it comes and goes, never rushed but always constant. Where I live, the tides are well known and constantly changing, so it felt right to honour that through my brand name.
But Ebb and Flo isn’t just about the sea. For me, it also represents life’s ups and downs, ins and outs, highs and lows, the way everything moves in cycles. It’s about embracing those contrasts instead of fighting them. That’s why I decided to spell Flo without the “w” to give the words equal letters, a little detail that reflects the balance I hope to embody in my life and my work.
A Logo Full of Layers
The logo might look simple, but there’s so much meaning behind it.
The circle represents wholeness. It reminds me of the cycle of life, the seasons, and how everything is connected. You can start at any point on a circle and always find your way back. That’s how I see life, like we’re constantly learning, growing, letting go, and beginning again.
It also makes me think of the Wheel of the Year, a nature-based idea that celebrates the turning of the seasons and the energies they bring. That connection to nature is something I try to carry through all my designs.
The black and white colour palette ties it all together. It reminds me of yin and yang, two halves of a whole. Light and dark, high and low. You can’t have one without the other. It’s the same with life’s challenges and joys, each one helps us understand and appreciate the other.
When I first sat down to design this logo, I wanted it to feel meaningful and timeless. I did a lot of research, pulled inspiration from Pinterest, and sketched out my ideas until it felt just right. Simplicity was key.
A Reflection of My Brand
Ebb and Flo isn’t just a name or a logo, it’s at the heart of everything I create. Every piece of jewellery I design is rooted in nature, mindfulness, and the inspiration I’ve gathered from travelling and exploring.
The circle reminds us to go with the flow, to move in rhythm with life rather than against it. For me, it’s about learning to embrace change and find balance, even when life feels uncertain. I want my jewellery to carry that same intention, to remind you to move through life’s cycles with openness.
A Brand That Grows with Me
One of the things I love most about Ebb and Flo is how it’s grown with me. When I first created it, the name and logo had one meaning. But over time, their significance has deepened as I’ve learned and experienced more.
Just like the circle, this brand is ever-evolving, yet it stays grounded in its core: nature, balance, and going with the flow. It’s a reflection of where I am in life and where I’m heading, and I think that’s what makes it feel so personal.
The name Ebb and Flo is more than words, it’s a reminder to move with the tides of life, to embrace its highs and lows, and to find beauty in its cycles.
If you’ve ever felt that same connection to nature or the pull to go with life’s flow, I’d love for you to explore my jewellery collections and see how these ideas are woven into my designs.
Here’s to flowing with life’s rhythm, one cycle at a time.
